Daily Reflection

The past couple days I have been going to a park near me to enjoy the sunset. What I have found is that while I watch the sun begin to hide behind the horizon, my mind begins to think. During one of the sunsets I had the realization that watching the sunset is a great opportunity for intentional thought. I have a unique relationship with thinking because my ADD and OCD tend to make my thoughts spiral out of control at times, but intentional thought can be an effective tool for getting a hold of those spiraling thoughts.

One of the easiest ways to practice intentional thought is to reflect on your day while watching the sunset. Reflection and sunsets go together like peanut butter and jelly, Monica and Chandler, or campfires and s’mores, it just feels right. The next time you watch a sunset I just want you to think about what you did that day. It should be like a short film in your head of what you spent your time doing. What this does is bring awareness to how you spend your time, and awareness is a blessing because it gives you the opportunity to decide whether you want to continue spending your time the way you do or make a change.

I also find that reflection tends to slow down time. I don’t really know if it’s the ADD or what, but I tend to feel like time is passing me by faster than it should be, which is an overwhelming feeling. Daily reflection calms that feeling of being overwhelmed by simply bringing awareness to how I use my time. If sunsets aren’t your thing, no worries, just find a time at the end of the day to become aware of your time spent through reflection. You got this.

With Love,

Luke
