The Mirror

There is no other medium for introspection more impactful than journaling. It allows you to track down your spiraling thoughts, and capture them with your pen and paper. It allows you to learn from your past mistakes and double down on your progress. Journaling is a mirror for the mind.

I started journaling my senior year of high school. It was used to reflect on my performances in baseball, schedule my days, and the occasional rant with no repercussions. Now I use journaling as a time to be introspective, to be myself without any second thoughts. I use it to let loose, and get away from the black hole of group think.

Journaling can be whatever you want it to be. You don’t even have to call it a journal (I prefer notebook). You can use it to process interactions that leave a mark, to weigh the outcomes of decisions, and to say everything you wish you could. A journal is a Swiss Army knife. The possible benefits are seemingly infinite.

In the past, I have purchased notebooks which were left unopened, for months. Some days I just didn’t know what to write about, or where to start. Then, I had a mentor tell me to start every entry with what the weather is outside. I’ve found the first step is the most challenging when it comes to writing down your thoughts, especially the racing ones.

Journaling has helped me discover who I am to my core, and I think it might be able to help you too.

With Love,

Luke
