Self-Discovery
In the past, your friends, parents, and even random strangers have unknowingly persuaded you to bottle up parts of yourself. Your behavior may have bothered this person and they let you know. Over time you became numb to these interactions, unaware of the damage they were causing. Molding you into someone who believes you are wrong to be yourself. Why be my most authentic self when it obviously bothers people?
So how do you start to discover yourself? First, reflect on your childhood. Ask yourself, what did I used to enjoy doing as a kid? Is there something you loved doing but left by the wayside for something else? Don’t overlook the power of these reflections, as they will equip you with awareness - the main ingredient in self-discovery.
Another piece in the process of self-discovery is to monitor your social media use. Social media tells you who you should be, and you listen. I know this because I listened as well, and still do sometimes. Social media was not designed with human nature in mind. With this in mind, know your relationship with social media is a lot easier to maintain than your interpersonal ones, but it doesn’t add any true value to your life.
Distancing yourself from social media will give you more time to reflect on who you were as a child. It only takes a baby step to get started. Set a timer for 15 minutes and get to thinking.
With Love,
