Equilibrium
When I think of the word equilibrium, I think of a state of mind that allows the body to operate freely, without the distraction of thought. Equilibrium can also be thought of as the best version of yourself. The reason I like to use the word equilibrium is because it suggests that the best version of you is ever present and always achievable. This concept is easier to apply to something like baseball because results are easily observed, but what does equilibrium look like in your relationships or in your personal life? Also, how do I find out where my equilibrium is?
I think that the first thing to remember here is that not everyone has the same equilibrium, nor does everyone have the same process of getting back to equilibrium. The first thing I would do is to reflect on times when you were operating at a high level, and ask yourself what habits put you in a position to do so? This could be as simple as you were drinking a lot of water, you took 10 minutes a day to do some breathing exercises, or you went to bed at the same time every night. Sometimes you forget what you did in the past that brought you success, so it is good to reflect on old habits.
Next, ask yourself what habits you could add to your daily routine to set yourself up for success. If you are focusing on relationships in your life, ask yourself what other people do that make you feel valued and incorporate that into you life. This could be as easy as sending a text or call. Obviously different parts of your life will require different questions to be asked but you have to actively seek inspiration sometimes and sometimes the best way to be inspired is to just ask yourself some questions.
After you’ve reflected on some of the old habits that’ve brought you success and gathered some new habits that will soon bring you success, take 5 minutes out of your day to schedule in when you are going to invest time into those habits. When you schedule things out, especially with pen and paper, you are much more likely to remember and take action. Hopefully you will find that scheduling habits brings you closer to that equilibrium, sometimes it takes longer than you expect but you have to believe that it will be worth it, because it is. You may deviate from your schedule every once in a while, that is expected, but it is how you respond that will determine your success in the long run. Got get some.
